Frankston Reinvented, stories of resilience and innovation

Here in Frankston City our hospitality, leisure and retail industries have had to change overnight. To continue to deliver the services that their customers and the wider community rely upon, these businesses have had to adapt quickly to reinvent themselves to be there for you!

We've been in touch with some of our local business heroes who have shared their stories of innovation and resilience and how they have had to quickly adapt to the current climate to make sure they continue to deliver what you, their customers, need.

They are here for you, let's return the favour and support local.

Here are their stories.

Two Boys One Beagle and A Coffee Shop – café to takeaway shop

59 Kareela Road Frankston | 9785 9239| twoboysonebeagle.com.au

Facebook twoboysonebeagle | Instagram: twoboysonebeagle

Since opening in 2018 Two Boys One Beagle and a Coffee Shop have been serving up local coffee roasters Commonfolk coffee and a delicious all-day brunch menu with mouth-watering home baked cakes from a super cute pink décor boutique café, nestled in the Karingal Neighbourhood

Our little oasis on Kareela Road has, like many other hospitality businesses, experienced big changes in the past few weeks! What was once a bustling cafe full of local families, mothers groups and friends catching up has now been transformed into a takeaway only shop. These changes have had a huge impact on how we operate but will certainly not stop us from brewing some of the best coffee in our area and serving up all our 2B1B goodies. We are adapting as best we can adding a "one stop staple shop" (we sell Riverina Milk, Baker Boys bread and locally sourced free range eggs) to the many locals that continue to support us, and we couldn't be more grateful for them!

We have also recently launched an online shop on our website offering home delivered food boxes packed full of some of our most loved menu items as well as a few staples to get you through the week. We offer home delivered or pickup custom cakes for special occasions, because a celebration in 'iso' should still be special!

A message to you: We will continue to learn, adapt and keep our 1.5m and we're looking forward to a big celebration on the other side!

Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre (PARC)

Cnr Cranbourne Road and Olive Grove, Frankston | 9781 8444 | parcfrankston.com.au
Facebook: parcfrankston | Instagram: parcfrankston

Since opening in 2014, PARC has become a part of daily life for so many residents and visitors to Frankston City. The Centre welcomes over 1 million + visitors annually, to enjoy the diverse and exciting range of aquatic and physical activities available in the Centre. To many locals and regional tourists, PARC provides fun and unique experiences, events and promotions, all while positively impacting the health and well-being of everyone in the local and surrounding areas.

The closure of the fitness industry, for an undetermined period of time, caused what felt like instant upheaval for PARC and our 300+ employees. Realising that this may become the new normal for quite some time the team got together to find ways to best activate and engage our 10,000 members, and the wider Frankston Community. We set about creating digital solutions for our community, that anyone could access to stay fit and feel good at home.

We have since launched 1on1 and Small Group Online Personal Training that allows you to access PARC's professional and qualified personal trainers via phone or video session, and keep your health and fitness on track while in isolation. Costing just $14 per session for the Group work outs, you can connect with your loved ones and get fit at the same time.

We have also recently launched PARC Your Way, our new digital exercise and well-being platform, delivering PARC's leading fitness and well-being programs, service and support in the way you want! PARC Your Way gives you access to a library of recorded classes and work outs, plus a timetable of live streamed classes each week – all led by PARC's expert, results focused instructors and trainers. Anyone can join, you just need to create an account, and then you can access all of PARC's fitness and well-being content and videos – anywhere, anytime, your way!

In such an uncertain time, we know the important role that exercise and connectedness plays in being strong both mentally and physically, and we wanted PARC to continue to be able to support residents and visitors to stay active, look after themselves (and each other), and know that just as we were before, PARC is here for you now!

Here is a link to our digital exercise services, please contact us if you would like to get involved, or sign up online today.

Quest Frankston – accommodation to office space

377 Nepean Highway, Frankston | 8796 1000 | questfrankston.com.au
Facebook: Quest Frankston Apartment Hotels |Instagram: QuestFrankston

Quest Serviced Apartments have been in Frankston coming on 17 years. During this time we have been a home away from home for both the international and domestic visitors and that extra room for local families hosting their visiting friends and relatives. Recent times have been challenging but we have accepted the challenge and are reinventing ourselves to make sure that we can continue to support our local community, providing the high level of customer service you know and trust and services which will help us all get through these difficult times.

The restrictions on both international and domestic travel, including the closures of domestic borders, the government mandated prohibition on large gatherings, and the cancellation of both sporting and major events has impacted significantly on many businesses, including our Quest serviced apartment business. Occupancy has dropped to an all-time low impacting on business continuity.

The mandatory lockdown has meant more family members working from home which can be quite overwhelming on work productivity and efficiency.

We wanted to help and find a way to continue to provide value for our local community. So saw the opportunity to redress the use of our spacious apartments as not only a Home Away from Home but Spacious Office Spaces.

Our one bedroom apartments provide all you need for an office space in the comfort of your own apartment with a balcony for some fresh air all the while maintaining social distancing. With complimentary car parking and Wi-Fi, guaranteed early check-in and a late checkout of 6pm the next day at a very competitive rate of $199.00 and fully tax deductable!

Give us a call on 03 8796 1000 to take up the offer.

A message to you: Thank you for supporting local business.

Vero Pasta + Wine – Temporarily beyond pasta

4/18-22 Beach Street, Frankston | 8752 4209 | veropasta.com.au
Facebook: Vero Pasta + Wine | Instagram: veropastawine

As a reasonably new dining experience on the block in Frankston, Vero Pasta + Wine only opened its doors in July 2019. Quickly building a loyal customer base and reputation for authentic homemade pasta and delicious local wines, our intimate setting on Beach Street was exactly what we had dreamed it would be.

This pandemic has been a very difficult time for people in the hospitality industry and we have had to change our entire operation to focus specifically on takeaway. I went to Naples a couple of years ago to learn how to make traditional Neapolitan pizzas. So it was something I was planning on incorporating into our menu eventually but since we lost our source of income practically overnight we have had to fast track our plans. This meant an intense phase of training with the staff to make pizzas that were up to our standards and sourcing a really high quality flour from Italy that we could use.

Neapolitan pizzas are special because they use a tiny amount of yeast so that they feel so light and digest so easily when eaten. You can eat a whole pizza and not feel heavy afterwards. No pizza coma! The overall pizza is better for the customer but the technique to achieve the end result is much more complicated. It means understanding how gluten, yeast and temperature affect a dough as it rises over a 20hr period. This means checking the weather and adjusting the dough recipe every day.

Good food takes time to master and pizza is way more complicated than people think it is. From what our customers have been saying ours seem to be winners. We often sell more pizza than pasta now and all our regulars have been excited to have something new to try as well. It's great to be in an industry where you bring actual joy to people, even if it's just something yummy to eat.

Now instead of providing an intimate venue for people to enjoy our food, we are lovingly preparing our new range to help our customers hopefully recreate the experience in their lounge rooms. We are so proud of the team for being able to pivot at this time to support Frankston City residents to continue to enjoy great food and wine while they adhere to the restrictions in place.

For the perfect date-night meal order with us……..

Moonlit Wildlife Sanctuary Conservation Park – 700+ animals still to be fed and entertained

550 Tyabb-Tooradin Rd, Pearcedale5978 7935moonlitsanctuary.com.au
Facebook: moonlitsanctuary |Instagram: moonlitsanctuary

Moonlit Sanctuary is an iconic place for people to get close to our amazing Aussie wildlife and create memorable moments that bring a smile to all ages.

When the pandemic was announced, the decision was made to temporarily close Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park on 24th of March 2020 following advice from the Australian Government.

Having over 700 animals to care for means that even though we are closed to the public our dedicated wildlife keepers are still working to keep our animals happy and healthy. It's a big change for both the animals and staff not to have the Park full of excited and inquisitive visitors and a lot of work is needed to keep things as normal as possible for the animals. We also have important conservation programs that are continuing to ensure that future generations can also enjoy the company of these endangered animals.

We have great support in our local community and are hoping this support will continue while we are temporarily closed.

While we cannot welcome you in person just now, we want to continue to provide all of our Frankston City and Mornington Peninsula residents with access to our memorable experiences and your favourite animal friends. We are posting lots of photos and video on our social media channels so you can keep up with all the cute antics of our animals.

Until we can open our doors again and welcome you back we have gift vouchers available to purchase online that you can then use when we do re-open. To thank you for your support, we will give you a 10% discount at the ticket box when you use your gift card.

A message to you: Stay safe. We're looking forward to seeing you again!

Jac n Jean

Jac n Jean opened its doors and started trading in June 1970 as a family owned and run clothing boutique. It was the first jean store in Melbourne. After a low key entry into the market, the store rapidly became a destination for young fashion conscious consumers by introducing national and international clothing labels.

Product and service has always been the key to Jac n Jean's success, our team strives to offer expert advice and assistance to create individual looks for our highly valued customer base.

However, business is slightly different at the moment. Our doors are closed but online is always open. We can no longer offer that valuable face-to-face customer service and in-store style advice to fill your needs, so we have made sure that our online store gives you full access to our huge selection of quality labels ranging from denim to homewares, skincare and accessories as well as activewear and of course our junior range.

What was trending just a few short weeks ago, is probably not high on everyone's priorities right now (weddings and events), but isolation is a great time to take care of yourself and do things which make you happy. So let us help you out. Find your new winter jacket or the comfy sneakers for your afternoon walks or the perfect pair of jeans for your post-iso bbq. And for right now, get the activewear, feel good and look stylish while working out at home. I think we all deserve a new workout outfit… agree?

As a small thank you for the HUGE support our community has shown us over the 50 years of Jac n Jean, we are currently offering 25% OFF site wide on all local orders.
At checkout enter code: 'LOCOOLS'
Select 'pick up in store' at the shipping method and we will personally deliver to your doorstep (well 1.5m from your doorstep), something we have implemented overnight for your safety and convenience.
Alternatively you can also collect from Parçha, the Turkish café next door to Jac n Jean on Wells Street in Frankston.

Dainton Brewery and Taphouse
The bar closing in March was extremely difficult as we had to stand down some of our full-time staff. The revision of the Job-Keeper initiative eventually allowed us to get them back into the brewery helping the team on the floor.
The bar shutting also had an impact on the overall business as it was a big part of our strategy to expand our distribution into all states and territories and launch our own national sales team with 6 full time staff.
This was planned for April 1 and it seemed then, that it couldn’t have happened at a worse time.
However, through some incredibly long and uncertain days, the team was able to galvanise and surpass all expectations. I’m extremely proud of them and humbled by the way they took on such a monumental challenge.
The brewers have been working massive days and weeks to keep up with the demand for the beers out in the market. Having our own sales force and people “on the ground” has allowed us to really connect with our customers and offer the best possible service. The sales team has been exceptional in that regard and they’ve hit all targets set before the pandemic hit.
The Pandemic Punch and Ryesolation blended beers were a massive hit and based on the idea of combining similar kegged beers into 2 special blended batches.
Our first “Virtual Master Class” also took place via Facebook live. Another great success in which customers ordered their mixed tasting packs online and then joined in the tasting and discussion online with our head brewer and founder.
One thing that stayed constant and ever in front of mind was our commitment to producing and delivering quality beers to our consumers. We couldn’t do this without the help from all our team, from logistics and admin to sales, brewers and all our third-party partners. And of course, our wonderful consumers.
So – our sales are up. The brewery team is working so hard that we’ve had to advertise for a new brewer and we will look towards a new site and a new larger brewery to cope with the increased sales.
And in ever-exciting news, the bar is also due to open this Friday with restricted numbers for patrons. Hopefully, we can be back in the swing of things very soon!
Dainton Brewery and Taphouse is re-opening to the public thus Friday in line with state wide restrictions. Call us today to book; 9775 0334 or make a reservation online: http://www.dainton.beer/
