Dreaming Poles

Description

Eight Dreaming Poles, created by Indigenous artists Aunty Di and Uncle Beamo, form part of the Dreaming Trail to replace the original poles which now lay in nearby garden beds as a decorative feature while ensuring the poles can eventually return to the earth.

Frankston City Council commissioned the original artworks to celebrate the heritage of the Boon Wurrung people and to acknowledge the community contribution of George Pentland, former Shire Secretary (1949-1960) and Town Clerk (1966-1975).

The new poles are expected to last approximately 40 years. The original poles required replacing as a result of weather and white ant damage.

The new artworks are a vibrant addition to the Dreaming Trail, a hidden gem in the park that tells the story of how the Mornington Peninsula was created. There are images depicting lizards, tortoises, snakes and ants carved and painted onto the poles.
